Shipping an electric vehicle follows the same simple process as any car — free quote, booking, carrier dispatch, pickup and delivery — with a few EV-specific checks. Battery packs make most EVs heavier than similar gas vehicles, which affects how many vehicles a carrier can load, so we confirm your exact make and model before matching a carrier.

Choose open car transport for the most affordable option, or enclosed auto transport for new, high-value or performance EVs.

Preparing Your EV for Transport

Leave a partial charge — not 100% and not empty. Your coordinator confirms the right level for your route.

Know how to put your vehicle in its transport or tow mode (Tesla calls it Transport Mode) for loading.

Turn off alarms and camera monitoring modes so they don’t drain the battery in transit.

Remove loose accessories such as portable charging cables and note existing damage before pickup.

Yes. We ship every Tesla model, along with other electric cars, SUVs and pickups, nationwide on open or enclosed carriers. Have your vehicle’s Transport Mode instructions handy in case the driver needs them for loading.

Leave a partial charge — enough for the driver to load and unload the vehicle, but not a full battery. Your transport coordinator confirms the right level for your carrier and route before pickup.

EV pricing depends on the same factors as any vehicle — distance, vehicle size and weight, open or enclosed transport, pickup flexibility and carrier availability. Because many EVs are heavier, weight can affect the price. ADL reviews each route before presenting your quote — no hidden fees.

Open transport is the most common and affordable choice for everyday EVs. Enclosed transport adds full protection from weather and road debris and is a good fit for new, luxury or performance electric vehicles.

Carriers must carry cargo insurance. ADL verifies carrier insurance before dispatch and can explain coverage details before booking. All carriers in our network are FMCSA compliant and fully bonded.
